Explore the Art of (Wang Zhigang): A Modern Master of Purple Clay Teapots

Meet the Artist: WANG ZI GANG

About the Artist: Wang Zhigang was born in 1963 in a family of potters in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province. He is a modern purple clay teapot art master in Jiangsu Province, a national light industry technical expert, a national ceramic industry technical expert, and a senior arts and crafts artist.

After participating in the ceramic exhibition in 1988, he was selected to study sculpture design and production in Han Meilin Studio of China Artists Association because of his outstanding works. During this period, he traveled with his teacher from south to north, and participated in the creation of "The First Tiger in the World" in Dalian Laohutan. This work was completed independently from the small sample to the enlargement of the medium sample. "Ruzi Niu", "Eagle", "Sun and Moon Horse" in Dalian Economic Development Zone: "The First Cow in the World" in Jinniu Park, Jinan; "Tiger" in Heihuquan and other masterpieces. It laid a solid foundation for the future artistic creation and obtained Han Meilin's student qualification certificate.

Notable Achievements:In 2008, he joined the Chinese Artists Association. In 2011, he was named a senior arts and crafts artist by the China Arts and Crafts Association. His works have been collected by the Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall, the China Millennium Monument, the World Art Museum, the Beijing Hotel, and the National Museum of China. In 2012, Wang Zhigang won the first place in the Arts and Crafts Hundred Flowers Award.
